ABOUT THE ARTIST
Kika Georgiou is a Greek Cypriot contemporary mixed media artist
located in Hertfordshire, UK.
Emotionally charged and driven by her passion, Kika’s diverse and unusual style varies from piece to piece. Looking through her collection of mixed media paintings and artworks will take you on a whirlwind journey.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My passion for art started at a very young age. I began making collages and using mixed media to create unusual artworks and displays for my bedroom. Growing up, my creativity extended to all aspects of my life, where I grasped any opportunity to experiment and bring my vision to life.
My passion for art never left however; I was as equally drawn to supporting other people emotionally. I decide to follow this path and qualified as a therapist however; something didn’t feel quite right for me. I needed to express myself in a way that wasn’t possible in this role. Over the next 14 years, I worked in various settings supporting vulnerable families and although I loved making a difference in people’s lives, something was still missing in mine.
It wasn’t until 2015, that an unexpected event led me to change my career and start my journey
as an Artist.
I believe that the in one way or another, we will eventually be guided to where we need to be.
I absolutely love what I do and feel that finally I have reached a place where I feel content in my life.
THE CREATIVE PROCESS
“All mixed media artworks are handmade originals usually create on wood panel, canvas board or using plaster.
I like to incorporate various mediums in each piece whether this is a painting, a body casting or resin artworks. These may include materials such as epoxy resin, healing stones and crystals, crushed glass and variety of paints and pigments.
My technique involves the multi layering of different material to create texture and depth to each piece.
What I love the most, is that everything piece of art is a form of expression on my journey to self-discovery”
WHAT INSPIRES ME TO PAINT?
What inspires me to paint? What a complex question! Everything internally and externally is linked, so in short, everything and anything can inspire me. This can range from something I see or hear, to an unexplainable feeling or urge to express ‘something’. I could be walking through the supermarket or sitting in traffic and a new material or object takes my immediate attention.
I rarely have a plan, though quite often I have an idea. How this will develop is another story.
It is as though I am taking a journey with texture and paint and at every junction… anything magical can happen.
I loved my commissioned piece of art that Kika created for me. The subject of my art, I’d seen Kika create before but the colours weren’t quite right for my living space. We worked together to reach the right colour shading for my piece. The end product was perfect. The colours, the quality, the work that went into it was amazing. I’d been looking for some time to find a piece I could happy hang in my home. My beautiful Ω was indeed an ONIRO. Thank you Kika. I look forward in acquiring a few more pieces in the future. Kika invited me to her studio to have a look at Charis before I bought it and I wanted to buy everything (if only I had the money). I was stunned by the detail that Kika adds to all her pieces. This body casting is a show piece at my daughters shop however; I would like to buy the bigger version to for my home too. A truly gifted and inspiring Artist. Highly recommended. Kika Started off as my client, designing her brand identity and website. I absolutely loved her artwork, especially ‘Caught Up’ and being a creative myself, decided to experiment and try to create something similar for myself. I quickly realised that Kika’s style is not easy to imitate. I therefore couldn’t resist asking her to create a piece that would fit in with the colours in our living room.
I really enjoyed going through the process with her and watching how our painting evolved through each layer she applied. Kika is super talented and I am fascinated by her process and the techniques she uses to create a truly unique piece of artwork each time. I couldn’t be happier.
